The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Rivers State has honoured the late former Divisional Police Officer of the Ahoada Police Division, SP Bako Angbashim, three years after his death, calling for his legacy to be immortalised.
Angbashim was killed by suspected cultists led by David Gift, popularly known as 2Baba, in Odiemudie community, Ahoada East Local Government Area, on September 8, 2023.
In February 2024, about five months after the killing, tactical and intelligence-led operations by the Rivers State Police Command resulted in the death of 2Baba. The operations were conducted under the leadership of then Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, who is now the Inspector-General of Police.
Speaking on the third anniversary of Angbashim’s death, Rivers State PCRC Chairman, Dr Voke Emore, described the late officer as a “sacrificial lamb” who paid the supreme price in the fight to restore peace and security in Ahoada East and Ahoada West LGAs.
Emore said Angbashim’s contributions to the fight against insecurity remained indelible, describing him as a professional and dedicated officer who brought pride to the Rivers State Police Command and the Nigeria Police Force.
He also recalled Angbashim’s achievements as DPO of the Bori Police Division in Khana LGA, particularly his efforts in restoring peace and security across Ogoni.
According to him, Angbashim’s performance in Bori was so impactful that residents protested his transfer to Ahoada at a time when insecurity was escalating in the area.
The PCRC chairman urged the Rivers State Government and the Ahoada East and Ahoada West Local Government Councils to immortalise the late police officer by naming a major project after him.
