The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee (CPC) to coordinate activities for the celebration of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary in the state.
The Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Dagogo Wokoma, inaugurated the committee in Port Harcourt and charged members to ensure effective planning and execution of programmes lined up for the celebration.
Wokoma stressed the need for early preparations, assuring that the state government would leave no stone unturned to ensure a successful and memorable commemoration.
He disclosed that activities would begin with a Juma’at Prayer Service on Friday, September 25, 2026, followed by an Inter-Denominational Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, September 27.
According to him, the celebration will culminate in a grand finale on Thursday, October 1, 2026, Nigeria’s Independence Day.
The SSG commended security agencies and relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies for their continued collaboration in ensuring hitch-free independence celebrations in the state.
He urged members of the committee to deploy their experience and professional expertise towards the successful delivery of the anniversary programmes.
