The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered firearms, ammunition, a vehicle and other items linked to the abduction of a woman identified as Loveth.
Loveth was reportedly abducted by armed men on September 2, 2026, while sitting in front of her shop. The assailants allegedly fired shots into the air before whisking her away in a vehicle.
Following the incident, operatives of the Eleme Police Division launched an intelligence-led operation to track the suspects.
The police said the operation resulted in a gun battle with the kidnappers, leading to the arrest of a 35-year-old suspect, Victor Ini, a native of Akwa Ibom State.
Recovered items include a silver-coloured mini Keke bus with registration number RBC 992 XE, Abuja; live ammunition; a mobile phone; two identity cards; two black gowns; and a vehicle number plate bearing KRK 528 HG.
The Command said it had intensified efforts to apprehend other members of the gang.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju, assured residents that the Command would continue to deploy all lawful means to protect lives and property and bring criminals to justice.
He urged residents to remain vigilant, strengthen their security measures during the ember period and provide credible information to the police.
