The Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Hon. Gift Worlu, has announced a ₦170 million Back-to-School Support Initiative aimed at assisting 850 families across the 17 wards of the LGA.
Under the initiative, each of the 850 selected families will receive ₦200,000 to help offset school fees and other educational expenses as parents and guardians prepare for the new academic session.
The intervention is expected to ease the financial pressure on families, particularly amid the rising cost of education and other household expenses.
According to the initiative, the support goes beyond immediate financial assistance, reflecting the local government’s commitment to promoting access to education and investing in the future of its people.
The administration said sustained investment in education remains critical to developing human capital and fostering the long-term growth and development of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
