The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Rivers State Command, has launched an internal investigation into the fatal shooting of a resident by one of its operatives in Port Harcourt.
The Command, while expressing sympathy to the family of the deceased, described the incident as unfortunate and appealed to members of the public to remain calm as investigations progress.
In a statement issued by the State Public Relations Officer, SC Ihemnacho Umeado, the incident occurred on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Ukukalama-Ama, Fimie, in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area.
According to the NSCDC, the incident has generated serious concern, especially amid a reported increase in cult-related violence and other criminal activities within the community.
The Command assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
