The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Rivers State Command, has deployed specialised and tactical teams across the state ahead of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration to strengthen security before, during and after the festivities.
This was contained in a statement issued by the State Command Public Relations Officer, SC Ihemnacho Umeado, following a strategic management briefing held at the command headquarters by the State Commandant, Joachim Okafor.
According to the statement, the commandant directed the immediate deployment of component units and tactical squads to identified black spots and likely flashpoints across the state, including recreational centres, Eid prayer grounds, major road intersections, markets and motor parks.
Okafor also reiterated the Corps’ commitment to the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure, directing the Anti-Vandal Unit to intensify patrols and surveillance around key installations such as telecommunications facilities, PHCN infrastructure, oil and gas pipelines, among others.
The NSCDC boss reassured residents of the state of the readiness of the Corps, alongside other security agencies, to ensure the protection of lives and property and prevent any breakdown of law and order during the Sallah celebration.
He warned criminal elements against taking advantage of the festive period to engage in unlawful activities, stressing that the command would deal decisively with offenders.
The commandant also appealed to residents to report suspicious activities in their neighbourhoods to the nearest security post for prompt response and containment.
He further felicitated with the Muslim faithful, wishing them a peaceful and fulfilling 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration while urging them to celebrate within the ambit of the law.
