The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has sealed two filling stations in Port Harcourt over alleged under-dispensing of petroleum products, urging motorists to remain vigilant against sharp practices at fuel outlets.
The affected stations were identified as MRS filling station in the CFC axis and Stageoil filling station at Craft Centre along Aba Road. The action followed a surveillance exercise by the regulatory authority to check compliance with petroleum product dispensing and quality standards.
During the exercise, NMDPRA officials inspected filling stations across the Port Harcourt metropolis and conducted tests on petroleum products to ascertain whether they met the required specifications.
The Executive Director, Health, Safety, Environment and Community, Mustapha Lamorde, who represented the Authority’s Chief Executive, Rabiu Umar, said the affected stations would face appropriate sanctions for allegedly short-changing unsuspecting customers.
He called on members of the public to report suspected cases of under-dispensing and other sharp practices to the authority for investigation and necessary action.
Other stations visited during the exercise included Rainoil on Station Road, which was queried over alleged under-dispensing and the sale of products suspected to be below the required specifications.
TotalEnergies at Garrison Junction was also advised over alleged over-dispensing, while the NNPC filling station in Trans-Amadi received commendation for meeting the required service standards.
The NMDPRA further disclosed that its laboratories across six operational zones had been upgraded to strengthen the testing of petroleum products and improve regulatory oversight in the midstream and downstream petroleum sectors.
