The Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised Dr. Sokonte Davies for joining the Rainbow Coalition after failing to secure the party’s governorship ticket.
In a statement issued on behalf of the party, Chizi Enyi said the ADC was amused by Davies’ political move, questioning his decision to join a coalition that, according to the party, had no governorship ticket to offer him.
The ADC suggested that if Davies’ departure was motivated by his failure to clinch the party’s ticket, he would have been expected to join a platform where he could pursue his governorship ambition.
“If the grievance was about not getting a governorship ticket in the ADC, one would have expected the next destination to be somewhere a governorship ticket was actually available,” the statement said.
Despite its criticism, the party said it bore no ill will towards the former aspirant, adding that he was entitled to make his own political choices.
The ADC also expressed hope that Davies would find political fulfilment in his new alliance, even as it maintained that his departure would not distract the party from its activities.
The party reaffirmed that it had a governorship candidate, a distinct political identity and a campaign to pursue ahead of the next election in Rivers State.
It wished Davies well in his new political journey.
