The Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, has called for stricter penalties for the production and sale of counterfeit and falsified regulated products in Nigeria.
Adeyeye made the call during a press briefing on Wednesday, describing counterfeiters as “merchants of death.”
She said those who produce and distribute substandard and falsified products were not only violating the law but also putting human lives at risk.
The NAFDAC boss called for stiffer sanctions under the NAFDAC Act and the Counterfeit and Fake Drugs Act, including the death penalty or life imprisonment for offenders involved in the production and sale of fake regulated products.
