The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has criticised President Bola Tinubu over his preference for spending holidays abroad and his approach to addressing insecurity and infrastructure challenges in Nigeria.
Obi said a Nigerian president should spend holidays in the country and use visits to affected communities as opportunities to engage stakeholders and find lasting solutions to national problems.
He also faulted Tinubu for visiting areas affected by killings and poor infrastructure without staying long enough to engage directly with stakeholders.
“As President of Nigeria, I will visit other countries but I will not take my holidays there.”
Obi said Tinubu should have stayed in places such as Jos, Benue and Kano for several days to engage stakeholders on insecurity and other challenges, rather than making brief visits.
He added that, if elected president, he would prioritise dialogue with traditional and religious leaders, including the Sultan of Sokoto, to discuss the country’s future.
