The Nigerian Senate has appointed Senator, Allwell Heacho Onyesoh, representing Rivers East Senatorial District, as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works.
The announcement was made on Wednesday during plenary by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, following the vacancy created by the demise of the former committee chairman, Senator Barinada Mpigi.
In a related development, Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District, was also appointed Chairman of the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs.
As Chairman of the Committee on Works, Senator Onyesoh will oversee federal infrastructure development, with particular emphasis on road construction and maintenance across the country. The committee is responsible for supervising relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), ensuring effective implementation of budgetary allocations, and promoting transparency and accountability in public works administration.
He is also expected to lead legislative scrutiny of policies and projects in the works sector, conduct oversight inspections, and recommend reforms aimed at improving the efficiency, quality, and sustainability of Nigeria’s infrastructure.
