Comrade, Beatrice Itubo has reacted to her removal as Chairperson of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Rivers State, following her emergence as the Governorship flagbearer of Labour Party in the state.
Vice Chairman of the union, Temple Morford in a statement yesterday, announced the removal of Itubo and declared Emecheta Chuku the new Chairperson.
However, Itubo said there is no provision in the Constitution that stipulates that said a member should resign while contesting an elective position.
According to her, Adams Oshiomole contested and won as Governor of Edo State, without resigning his position as NLC President.
She also said the President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Nasir Idris who is also the Deputy President of NLC, emerged the APC Guber candidate in Kebbi State, and has not resigned.
She wondered why her own is different.
Meanwhile, Joseph Agbo, a member of the NLC in the state, has said that it is only the state Administrative Council that can call for the removal of the Chairperson.
