Former Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Amb. Chijioke Ihunwo, has denied calling on President Bola Tinubu to distance himself from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, describing the publication as misleading.
Ihunwo, in a statement responding to the report, reaffirmed his commitment to the Rainbow Coalition and the political direction of Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara.
He maintained that his position had not changed, insisting that he would continue to work with members of the coalition to support its candidates, including President Tinubu.
“My political position remains unchanged; I will continue to support the candidates endorsed by Governor Fubara, including President Tinubu,” he said.
The former council chairman noted that his position had been publicly reported following an interview in August 2026, stressing that the recent publication should not be interpreted as a withdrawal from the coalition or opposition to its candidates.
He alleged that the report was part of efforts by political opponents to create confusion about his political affiliation, adding that such activities would not distract him from his commitment to peace and reconciliation.
Ihunwo reiterated that he remained firmly committed to the Rainbow Coalition and would continue to follow Governor Fubara’s political direction.
