The Senate of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt, has approved five new programmes following the National Universities Commission’s (NUC) accreditation of the courses.
The development was contained in a statement signed by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Dr Ngozi Okiridu, following the Senate meeting held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at the Postgraduate Hall of the institution.
The newly approved programmes are Special Needs Education, Human Kinetics and Sports Management, Environmental Management and Toxicology, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and Cyber Security.
The approval followed a NUC visit to the university on September 8, 2026, to ascertain its readiness for the programmes recently introduced by the institution.
The Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of Senate, Professor Okechuku Onuchuku, said plans were underway to appoint and announce qualified academic staff who would head the new departments.
Meanwhile, Senate expelled Miss Onyewuenyi Chiamaka Nora, a final-year student of the Department of English and Literary Studies, over what the university described as damaging content creation.
The student, with matriculation number U/2022/19900, was expelled as a deterrent to others who may engage in similar conduct.
The university said the student had, in a viral interview, claimed that her project topic was “Citizenship”, despite there being no such topic in the department, and also alleged that her supervisor wrote the project for her.
In another development, Senate approved the graduating results for the 2024/2025 academic session from IAUE faculties and affiliated institutions, including Peaceland University, Enugu, and College of Education, Warri, as presented by the Dean of the Postgraduate School, Professor Helen Okujagu.
It also approved the 2026/2027 academic calendar as presented by the Director of the Academic Planning Unit, Professor Joseph Kinanee.
Returning students are expected to resume on Monday, November 9, 2026, while registration for Year One students is ongoing and will continue fully from Monday, November 16.
Lectures will commence for returning students on Monday, November 23, while fresh students will begin lectures on Monday, November 30.
The Christmas break will commence on Friday, December 18, with academic activities resuming on Monday, January 4, 2027.
