Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has commended the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), and their affiliate unions for fostering industrial peace through dialogue rather than confrontation.
In a goodwill message to mark the International Workers’ Day 2026, the governor noted that the prevailing harmony across workplaces in the state is a result of the maturity and responsible leadership demonstrated by organised labour. He urged union leaders to sustain the culture of dialogue to ensure continued progress in industrial relations.
Fubara expressed appreciation to workers in the Rivers State Civil Service for their contributions to the state’s development, assuring them that his administration remains committed to prioritising their welfare and wellbeing. He disclosed that the rehabilitation of the State Secretariat Complex is ongoing and, upon completion, will enhance the work environment and boost efficiency and productivity.
Reflecting on the past 35 months, the governor praised civil servants for maintaining peace and stability despite political challenges in the state. He assured them that their sacrifices would not go unrewarded.
“Despite political storms, you did not down tools. Our schools did not shut. Our hospitals did not close. That is because you chose service over strife. Rivers State owes you a debt of gratitude,” he said, adding that salaries have been paid consistently while pension obligations are being cleared.
Fubara also paid tribute to workers across various sectors, including teachers, healthcare professionals, engineers, sanitation workers, farmers, and artisans, acknowledging their vital roles in sustaining the state’s economy and public services.
He, however, recognised the economic pressures facing workers, including rising living costs and transportation challenges, but commended their resilience and continued belief in the state. The governor pledged that his administration would not betray that trust.
