The Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) has stepped up its waste evacuation operations across Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas as part of efforts to restore the state capital’s “Garden City” status.
In a public update issued on April 29, 2026, the agency disclosed that a total of 71 waste zones, covering about 500 receptacles, have so far been attended to, with ongoing operations targeting areas of concern.
RIWAMA reported that along the East-West Road, continuous day and night evacuation is underway from Choba to Rumukwurusi to address accumulated waste. Creek Road has been completely cleared, while evacuation efforts have been ongoing on Aggrey Road since the previous night.
In Rumuolumeni, particularly along Iwofe Road, the agency said about 80 percent of waste has been cleared, with final mop-up operations in progress to achieve full evacuation. On Npkogu Road, three compactor trucks have been deployed to accelerate clearance operations.
The agency called on residents to support its efforts by providing updates on waste conditions in their areas. Residents are encouraged to send confirmed reports via 08028339992 to help RIWAMA respond more effectively.
RIWAMA reiterated its commitment to improving environmental sanitation and ensuring a cleaner, healthier city for residents.
