Immediate past Senior Special Assistant to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Hon. Darlington Orji, and former Rivers State Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Collins Onunwo, have confirmed their return to the political camp of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Orji confirmed his realignment by sharing a photograph of himself with Wike’s political associates on social media, accompanied by the caption “Back to the family.”
A former ally of Wike, Orji had defected to Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s camp during the peak of the political crisis in Rivers State, where he declared loyalty to the governor.
Onunwo also announced his return to Wike’s camp, saying his decision followed the olive branch recently extended by the FCT Minister to aggrieved political associates in the interest of promoting unity and lasting peace in Rivers State.
He explained that he could not remain on a different political path from his principal, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who, according to him, has declared support for President Bola Tinubu, the APC governorship candidate in Rivers State, and other APC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The confirmations by Orji and Onunwo are the latest indications of political realignments within Rivers State as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
