The Federal Government will close the First Niger Bridge for one week to carry out emergency repairs and install security infrastructure following the vandalism of critical components.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, said on Friday that traffic would be diverted to the Second Niger Bridge during the closure.
He said the repairs would include replacing the bridge’s asphalt, while solar-powered streetlights and CCTV cameras would be installed to strengthen security and prevent further vandalism.
Umahi also directed contractors on the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway to prioritise failed sections and carry out major works at night to minimise traffic disruption.
