TEXT: ZECHARIAH 4:1-14
MEMORY VERSE: “The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it; and thou shalt know that the Lord of Hosts hath sent me unto you” (Zech. 4:9 KJV).
Life on planet earth is full of challenges. Both natural and Satan inspired, man-made obstacles, working in concert to frustrate our success and achievements. (Jer. 51:25; Ex. 14:15-31). But they whose trust is in God, shall never be moved; and though they pass through hell or shadows of death, they shall come out safe, secure and victorious (Ps. 125:1; Ps. 23:4).
The prophecy of Zechariah to King Zerubbabel is a message of hope, especially to those in leadership. Those who lead must remember that for them to have good success (Jos. 1:8), their leadership must never be by the power of their personal abilities and position. Successful leadership must be based on what the Spirit of God supplies. In other words, successful leadership of God’s people must be based on the power of a Spirit-filled man, who has submitted himself to the will of God (Acts 6:1-5).
Again, there is often opposition in the life of God’s people. But the will and promise of God often override all obstacles. Zerubbabel experienced this; and so also do all true Christians in the private lives and ministries. There is always help from the mighty hand of God.
All those who doubted in the beginning of Zerubbabel’s project, lived to celebrate when the temple was completed. As we look back on the things that God has done in our lives, we have confidence to continue with those things in which we are presently involved. We are assured that God is working in our lives even as we labour daily.
- How have you reacted to frustration in your life?
- O Lord My God, if I fall seven times, may your mighty hands lift me up.
