TEXT: OBADIAH 13-21 KJV
MEMORY VERSE: “And He shall bring upon them their own iniquity, and shall cut them off in their own wickedness; yea, the Lord our God shall cut them off.” Psalm 94:23 KJV
In our text today, Obadiah the prophet prophesied stern judgment against the people of Edom (descendants of Esau, the brother of Jacob). God would destroy them because of their violence against Israel, their delight over the destruction of Jerusalem, and their involvement in plundering the city. The “last laugh” belonged to God’s people, for God would restore them when He once again revealed His reign on Mount Zion. God would bring the Edomites down because they had been the enemies of His people Israel.
In Isaiah 47, God commands proud Babylon to “come down and sit in the dust,” for her days of sitting on the throne of authority plundering His people Israel were over. The Lord would take vengeance on Babylon and would show her no pity. The book of Obadiah serves as a reminder to all believers as to how much God cares for those whose trust is in Him, to avenge for them against all oppressors and persecutors.

In Hosea 13:14, the Lord promised to ransom His people from the power of the grave, and to redeem them from death. Rejoice therefore, O ye his saints, for our Messiah liveth, and He has the keys of hell and of hades (Rev. 1:18).
CHALLENGES
- In our today’s text, Obadiah prophesied judgment against the people of Edom, the descendants of Esau, the brother of Jacob (Israel). Do you think this is a way of reminding us of how much God wants us to show and demonstrate brotherly love in the fold? Meditate.
PRAYER POINT
- Lord, I desire earnestly to show love to the brethren. May I receive the grace to sorrow when they sorrow, and to celebrate when they do. Amen.
