Former Vice President and ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has vowed to restore targeted fuel subsidy if elected, saying Nigeria is rich enough to ease the hardship faced by its citizens.
Atiku stated this on Tuesday in Abuja while receiving the Osun State leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
“On the question of subsidy, my position has not changed and will not change: I will restore it! A nation as blessed as ours has no business abandoning its citizens to hardship. Nigeria is rich enough to look after her own,” he said.
He said his administration would focus on restoring purchasing power, supporting local production and reducing energy and transportation costs.
“When fuel rises, transport rises. When transport rises, food rises. When food rises, families suffer,” Atiku said.
“I will not restore the import racket; I will restore relief,” he added.
He pledged to make daily living more affordable and strengthen both economic and physical security for Nigerians.
