ESOCS Devotional 27 May 2026 – The Whole Armour of God
MEMORY VERSE: “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” Ephesians 6:11 KJVV
TEXT: EPHESIANS 6:10-24
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— 19 and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
21 But that you also may know my affairs and how I am doing, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, will make all things known to you; 22 whom I have sent to you for this very purpose, that you may know our affairs, and that he may comfort your hearts.
23 Peace to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Grace be with all those who love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.

Undoubtedly, the forces of light (Christ) and the forces of darkness are constantly in conflict. This has brought about perpetual spiritual warfare between the armies of God and Satan. In order to survive and eventually gain victory at last, the Bible has some instructions for all believers. In Romans 13:12, we are asked to put on the armour of light. In 2 Corinthians 6:7, we are advised to constantly put on the word of truth, and the armour of righteousness on the right hand, and on the left. In verse 11 of our text, we are encouraged to put on the whole armour of God, as to be able to withstand all strategies of the devil.
Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ battled the evil one and gained ultimate victory. This, He achieved, by His death on the cross, (John 19:30), fierce battle in the kingdom of darkness (Psalms 24:7-10, Revelation 1:18), and by His exaltation and ascension (Luke 24:51, Ephesians 1:20-22).
As a matter of fact, Christians cannot avoid spiritual warfare as disciples, and solders of the cross. To help us in this struggle, God the Father has made available defensive armour, as well as an offensive weapon. This is the sword of the Spirit – which is the Word of God, so our victory is assured. It follows therefore that, for us to be strong and combat-ready in the mighty power of God, we must put on the whole armour of God. These will equip us to be able to stand firm against all odds. Moreover, let’s be warned. We are not fighting against flesh and blood enemies. We are rather at war against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world; against mighty powers in this dark world, against evil spirits in the air.
Reflections
- Pray not against fellow humans, but against principalities and powers.
Prayer
- Lord, equip me for the fierce battle ahead.
