ESOCS Devotional 26 April 2026 – The Lord is a Warrior
MEMORY VERSE: “The Lord is a warrior; the Lord is his name.” Exodus 15:3 NIV
TEXT: EXODUS 15:1-12
Then Moses and the children of Israel sang this song to the Lord, and spoke, saying:
“I will sing to the Lord,
For He has triumphed gloriously!
The horse and its rider
He has thrown into the sea!
2 The Lord is my strength and song,
And He has become my salvation;
He is my God, and I will praise Him;
My father’s God, and I will exalt Him.
3 The Lord is a man of war;
The Lord is His name.
4 Pharaoh’s chariots and his army He has cast into the sea;
His chosen captains also are drowned in the Red Sea.
5 The depths have covered them;
They sank to the bottom like a stone.
6 “Your right hand, O Lord, has become glorious in power;
Your right hand, O Lord, has dashed the enemy in pieces.
7 And in the greatness of Your excellence
You have overthrown those who rose against You;
You sent forth Your wrath;
It consumed them like stubble.
8 And with the blast of Your nostrils
The waters were gathered together;
The floods stood upright like a heap;
The depths congealed in the heart of the sea.
9 The enemy said, ‘I will pursue,
I will overtake,
I will divide the spoil;
My desire shall be satisfied on them.
I will draw my sword,
My hand shall destroy them.’
10 You blew with Your wind,
The sea covered them;
They sank like lead in the mighty waters.
11 “Who is like You, O Lord, among the [b]gods?
Who is like You, glorious in holiness,
Fearful in praises, doing wonders?
12 You stretched out Your right hand;
The earth swallowed them.

After the miraculous crossing of the Red Sea and the defeat of Pharaoh’s army, Moses and the Israelites sang a song of victory. In that song, they declared: “The Lord is a warrior; the Lord is his name.” This is not just poetic language; it is a powerful revelation of God’s nature.
We often think of God as loving, kind, and gentle, and He is. But He is also a mighty warrior who fights for His people, defends the helpless, and destroys the plans of the enemy. The Israelites didn’t lift a sword; God fought the battle for them.
Whatever battle you may be facing today, whether it’s spiritual, emotional, relational, or physical, remember this: You are not alone, and the fight is not yours alone. The Lord goes before you. He sees the enemy. He knows the terrain. He has never lost a battle.
Victory doesn’t come by our strength but by trusting the One who has never been defeated. The Lord is your warrior. Stand still, and watch Him fight for you.
Reflection
- What battles are you currently facing that feels overwhelming or impossible?
- Do you believe that God is actively fighting for you? Why or why not?
- How can remembering that the Lord is a warrior strengthen your faith in difficult moments?
- What might it look like to trust God’s strength instead of relying on your own efforts?
Action Step
Write down the specific “battle” you’re facing today. Then, find and meditate on a Scripture that speaks of God’s power and deliverance (e.g., Deuteronomy 20:4; 2 Chronicles 20:15; Romans 8:37). Each day this week, declare aloud: “The Lord is a warrior He is fighting for me.” Let that truth guide your prayers and actions.
Prayer
- Lord, thank you that you are not only my Saviour but also my Warrior. I lay down my fears, my efforts, and my strategies, and I trust in your power.
- Fight for me, Lord — in my family, my mind, my situation.
- Teach me to rest in your strength and walk in your victory, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
