TEXT: 2 KINGS 2:1-15
MEMORY VERSE:
“And Elijah said unto Elisha, Tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Bethel. And Elisha said to him, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they went down to Bethel” (2 Kings 2:2 KJV).
Elisha was a diligent apprentice to Elijah the prophet. Diligent people pay close attention to the things they do; nothing escapes their keen observation. For this reason, they always excel in the things they learn; and when they graduate from their apprenticeship, they emerge successfully and do well when they practice the things they have learned.
Elisha’s diligence, devotion, determination, and paying astute attention to the necessities of his apprenticeship enabled him to earn and gain a double portion of the anointing his master had.
Elisha is our good example of apprenticeship. As Christians, we are daily under the apprenticeship of the Holy Spirit who is our divine Teacher. Our Lord Jesus gave us an insight concerning our relationship with the Holy Spirit. He said, “But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you” (John 14:26 NIV).
We are His apprentices and under His guidance. Let us be diligent and devoted to listening to Him, and obeying Him. We have no other school master. Elisha’s attentiveness enabled him to understand the times: his master was going to be taken away. He was wise in these things. Like him, let us be wise too and understand that we do not have much time: our Soon Coming King would soon be here, and the rapture would take place. Like Elisha, let us be wise in these things, and be mindful.
- Be sensitive to the teachings of the Holy Spirit.
- Lord, grant me the grace to follow you faithfully.
