Governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Rivers State, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, has said he would not have entered the 2027 governorship race if not for the prevailing circumstances in the state, which he described as a situation in which Rivers is bleeding.
Lulu-Briggs stated this while addressing stakeholders of his party in Port Harcourt at the weekend, urging them to rise and work towards salvaging the state.
He explained that his decision to contest was not driven by a personal ambition to become governor but by a sense of responsibility to the people and the future of Rivers State.
The NDC candidate recalled that he had previously supported Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s second-term ambition, noting that he was among the Kalabari leaders who endorsed the governor and urged him to seek re-election.
“I would not have been running this race this time because I believe that the present Governor of the State truly meant well and was doing well,” he said.
He added that building the state, caring for its people and securing the future of its children were responsibilities that required leadership and commitment.
According to him, the key issues at stake were the prosperity and security of Rivers State.
Lulu-Briggs challenged party stakeholders to take a stand against what he described as bullying, urging them not to remain indifferent to the situation.
“At a time like this, when it is obvious to all of us and everybody is bleeding, would you rather stand and stare? Or would you step forward and say to the bullying, enough is enough?” he asked.
