The National Center for Disease Control, NCDC, has warned Nigerians against disobeying government’s directive on COVID-19.

Director-general of the Commission, Chikwe Ihekweazu during the Presidential briefing in Abuja on Monday, said there is a rapid escalation of cases in countries where people disobey such directives.

“We are seeing a rapid escalation in the number of cases in countries where people gathered in large numbers with poor adherence to public health & social measures & emergence of new variants,” he said.

He said Nigeria as a nation must avoid a similar situation, as there is an emergenceof a new variant.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has reintroduced COVID-19 restrictions across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Mass gatherings have been reduced to 50 percent capacity; while event centres, night clubs, are to remain closed, amongst others.

This new directive is to take effect by midnight of Tuesday, May 12, 2021.
