The former factional Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Victor Oko-Jumbo and two other lawmakers have made his first appearance at plenary after years of suspension amid the political crisis in the state.
The lawmakers were present on Tuesday during the 69th Legislative Sitting of the Rivers State House of Assembly, where Speaker Martin Amaewhule welcomed them alongside other members.
Their appearance comes after they were suspended by the Assembly during the height of the political crisis in Rivers State.
Meanwhile, the House gave First Reading to a bill seeking to re-establish the Government Sea School, Isaka, as a maritime and vocational training institution in Okrika Local Government Area.
The bill seeks to provide a legal framework for the school’s governance, funding and administration, while aligning its operations with contemporary maritime standards and the demands of the blue economy.
Presenting the bill, which was co-sponsored by lawmakers including Arnold Davids, Tonye Adoki, Enemi George, Igwe Aforji, Azeru Opara and Nkemjika Ezekwe, the member representing Okrika Constituency, Linda Somiari-Stewart, said it seeks to repeal the Rivers State Sports Institute Law and enact a new law to re-establish the sea school.
The proposed legislation is intended to restore the institution’s maritime and vocational training mandate.
