Member of the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda, has emerged as the consensus governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State following the withdrawal of other aspirants from the race.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Tonye Cole, and Alabo George-Kelly, who had earlier purchased party nomination forms to participate in the primaries, announced their withdrawal from the contest on Wednesday, pledging support for whoever emerges as the party’s candidate.
Following the development, Chinda, a former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, is now the consensus aspirant ahead of today’s governorship primary election.
Chinda, who is widely known as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, was screened as an aspirant in the APC governorship race, leaving many party members and political observers questioning when he joined the APC.
