The Borno State Government has successfully reintegrated 720 former insurgents into society following the completion of a deradicalisation, rehabilitation, and reintegration programme.
The individuals, classified as low-risk participants and minor clients under Batch 9 of the initiative, were formally released after taking an oath on the Holy Quran and are set to return to various communities across the state.
Speaking at a ceremony held on Friday at the Hajj Camp in Maiduguri, the Special Adviser on Security to Governor Babagana Zulum, Brig. Gen. Ishaq Abdullahi (retd.), said the programme marks another significant achievement in the state’s non-military strategy for tackling insurgency in the North-East.
According to him, the rehabilitation scheme has become a key component of Borno’s peacebuilding efforts and is regarded as one of the most successful non-kinetic counter-insurgency models globally.
