The Bonny Local Government Area Council has announced plans to host the Nyesom Wike Football Tournament 2026, with a total prize pool of ₦10 million aimed at promoting grassroots football, youth empowerment and community unity.
The announcement was made on Friday by the Chairman of Bonny LGA, Amasenibo Hon. Engr. Abinye Blessing Pepple, who described the tournament as a major initiative to encourage youth development, talent discovery and healthy community engagement across Bonny Kingdom.
According to the council, the competition will feature football teams drawn from the 12 political wards of the local government area, providing a platform for young players to showcase their talents while promoting friendship, discipline and sportsmanship.
The overall champions will receive ₦5 million, while the runners-up will go home with ₦3 million. The third-placed team will earn ₦2 million, bringing the total prize money for the tournament to ₦10 million.
Speaking on the initiative, Pepple reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to using sports as a tool for youth empowerment and community development, stressing that the tournament would create opportunities for positive engagement among young people.
The council also called on residents, football enthusiasts and supporters to turn out in large numbers to cheer participating teams and celebrate the spirit of unity and excellence the competition is expected to promote.
