Belgium international and Jérémy Doku has temporarily left his country’s camp at the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be present for the birth of his first child.
The Manchester City winger travelled from the Belgian team’s base in the United States to London, where he welcomed a baby boy named Praise.
Doku had already missed Belgium’s recent Group G clash against Iran after falling ill. With medical staff confirming he was fit enough to travel, the Belgian Football Federation granted him permission to leave the squad for the family occasion.
Belgium head coach Rudi Garcia backed the player’s decision, emphasizing the importance of family commitments.
The 24-year-old is expected to return to the Belgian camp in Seattle ahead of Belgium’s final group-stage match against New Zealand National Football Team.
Doku’s brief departure has generated discussion among football fans and commentators, with many expressing support for his decision to prioritize his family while remaining committed to Belgium’s World Cup campaign.
Belgium will be hoping to have the talented winger back in action as they continue their quest for success at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
