Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reacted to the presidential primary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that produced former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate.
Speaking during a live media chat on Monday, Wike said the outcome of the ADC primary did not come as a surprise to him, insisting that the party’s structure and arrangements were designed to favour Atiku.
The former Rivers State governor also commented on the participation of former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, in the contest, describing him as a brother and stating that he would have advised him against running under the ADC if consulted.
“Amaechi is my brother. If Amaechi had called me, I would have told him not to run under the ADC because I saw the setup,” Wike said.
According to him, it was clear from the outset that the party’s presidential primary was structured in a way that guaranteed Atiku’s emergence as the candidate.
“When I saw the setup in ADC, I laughed because that setup was Atiku’s setup 100 per cent,” he added.
Wike’s remarks come amid reactions trailing the ADC presidential primary, which saw Atiku secure the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
