Former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has accused President Bola Tinubu of violating Nigeria’s Constitution, blaming the National Assembly’s weakness for enabling such actions.
Speaking at the Akinjide Adeosun Foundation’s Leadership Discourse in Lagos on Thursday, Amaechi condemned the suspension of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and state lawmakers. He described the move as unconstitutional and said it reflects the collapse of the rule of law in the country.
Amaechi criticised what he called a growing trend of arbitrary governance, stating, “The president didn’t break a law — he broke the Constitution.” He warned that weak institutions and a docile citizenry enable such violations, urging Nigerians to be more proactive in defending constitutional democracy.
