Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has welcomed the death sentence handed down to four individuals convicted over the 2022 attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, describing the judgment as a victory for the victims, the people of Owo, and Ondo State as a whole.
The convicts were sentenced to death on Wednesday by Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja after finding them guilty of their roles in the attack that claimed the lives of 41 worshippers and left many others injured.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Aiyedatiwa said the verdict had brought a measure of justice and relief to the affected families and communities.
According to the governor, residents of Owo and the entire state were pleased with the outcome of the case, noting that the judgment would help ease the pain caused by the tragic incident.
He commended the security agencies, the judiciary, and all stakeholders involved in the investigation and prosecution of the case for ensuring that justice was served.
Aiyedatiwa also called on Nigerians to remain united in the fight against terrorism and other forms of violent crimes, stressing the need for collective efforts to safeguard lives and maintain national security.
