The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Deputy Governorship Candidate, David Amapakaye Okumgba, has challenged Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to account for his political influence in Rivers State, insisting that the state must not be treated as the personal property of any individual.
Okumgba, who spoke during the inauguration of the ADC Okrika Local Government Area Campaign Council on October 28, 2026, also criticised the six-month suspension of democratic governance in Rivers State and the appointment of a Sole Administrator by President Bola Tinubu.
He attributed the political crisis to alleged political interference and challenged Wike to explain his contributions to the state beyond the 12 bridges he frequently references.
The ADC chieftain also questioned the impact of the Tinubu administration on the people of Rivers State.
Okumgba, however, commended former Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for his contributions to education, healthcare, agriculture, sports and infrastructure, citing scholarship programmes, modern schools, healthcare facilities and projects in Wakirike communities, including the Ring Road and Bolo Bridge.
On political representation, he called for greater opportunities for the Ogoni people to govern Rivers State, arguing that the Ijaw and other ethnic groups had occupied key leadership positions.
He described the Ijaw nation’s support for an Ogoni governorship candidate as a demonstration of fairness, justice and equity.
He also questioned the political activities of an unnamed Ogoni political figure, expressing concern over what he described as political manoeuvres and their implications for the Ogoni people.
The ADC Deputy Governorship Candidate further accused OK Chinda of serving Wike’s private interests, insisting that the collective interests of Rivers people must take precedence over individual political interests.
He also dismissed the Rainbow Coalition as “Rainbow Confusion”, arguing that the state’s leadership should focus on the welfare and interests of its people.
At the event, Chief Boma Amapakabo Owoi was inaugurated as Director-General of the ADC Okrika Campaign Council.
