The Rivers State Government has announced that activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day celebration in the state will begin with a Juma’at prayer on Friday, September 25, 2026.
Secretary to the State Government, Dagogo Wokoma in a statement said the prayer is scheduled for 1pm at the Central Mosque, Port Harcourt Township.
According to him, the celebration will continue with an inter-denominational Church Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, September 27, at 10am at St Paul’s Cathedral, Diobu, by Rebisi Flyover, Port Harcourt.
The grand finale, featuring an Independence Day parade and march past, will hold on Thursday, October 1, at 10am at the Sharks Football Stadium, Alfred Diette-Spiff Sports Complex, Port Harcourt Township.
He said, Governor Siminalayi Fubara is expected to inspect the Guard of Honour during the parade and urged invited guests to be seated before the commencement of each event.
