The Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area and Coordinator of the Rainbow Coalition in Ikwerre LGA, Hon. Charles Wobodo, has announced a civic reception in honour of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
According to a statement issued by Wobodo, members of the Rainbow Coalition, stakeholders and residents of Ikwerre Local Government Area have been urged to come out in large numbers to give the minister and his entourage a warm welcome.
The reception is scheduled to hold on Saturday, September 5, 2026, by 12 noon at St. Martin’s Anglican Church Field, Omagwa, Ikwerre Local Government Area.
The event is taking place on the same day former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, is expected to bury his mother at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Ubima, also in Ikwerre LGA.
The coincidence of both events has generated discussions among residents, with some alleging that the civic reception was organised to overshadow or affect attendance at the burial ceremony. However, no official statement has been issued to support the claim.
Political observers note that Wike and Amaechi have remained key political figures in Rivers State, with both maintaining significant support bases within Ikwerre ethnic nationality.
