The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of displaying fear over what it described as a growing opposition, following his latest remarks against former Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
In a statement signed by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Chizy Enyi, the ADC said Wike’s repeated attacks on Amaechi contradict his claim that the opposition poses no threat ahead of the 2027 general election.
The party argued that if the opposition had no electoral value, the minister would not continue to devote time to criticising its leaders, adding that such actions reflect “anxiety rather than confidence.”
The ADC maintained that Amaechi remains one of Rivers State’s most influential political figures, saying his record in governance and national leadership “speaks for itself” and does not require validation from political opponent.
The party also faulted Wike’s assertion that the outcome of the 2027 presidential election in Rivers State was already certain, insisting that every election is determined by voters under prevailing political circumstances.
According to the statement, Rivers people are more concerned about economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment, poor infrastructure and citizens’ welfare than political exchanges.
The ADC further rejected what it described as Wike’s attempt to portray himself as the sole determinant of Rivers State’s political future, stressing that the state belongs to its people and that no individual has the exclusive right to decide how they will vote.
The opposition party said it would remain focused on presenting “credible leadership, responsible governance and practical solutions” to the state’s challenges instead of engaging in personal attacks.
