The Rivers State Police Command says it has arrested three suspects linked to the murder of two police officers during a stop-and-search operation in the Aluu area of the state and recovered three rifles, including two earlier stolen from the slain officers.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Blessing Karbolo, the Command said the officers were attacked on June 29, 2026, while on duty, resulting in the death of both personnel. One of the officers reportedly sustained severe leg injuries, which later led to an amputation before he eventually died.
The statement said the attack also led to the theft of the officers’ service rifles.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju, directed all operational and intelligence units of the Command to intensify efforts to arrest those responsible and recover the stolen weapons.
Acting on the directive, operatives of the Command’s Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), through intelligence-led operations, arrested three suspects identified as 34-year-old Maduabuchi Emeka, also known as “Doctor,” 42-year-old Chinedu Owhor, and 28-year-old Kamachi Joe, all natives of Omoku in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area.
The Command disclosed that efforts are ongoing to arrest a fourth member of the gang, who remains at large.
Commissioner of Police Adepoju commended the operatives for their professionalism and bravery, describing the arrests as a demonstration of the Command’s determination to bring violent criminals to justice.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, warning criminals to desist from unlawful activities or face the full weight of the law. The Commissioner also urged residents to continue providing credible information to support ongoing efforts to improve security across Rivers State.
