Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, that he could face resistance if he campaigns in Rivers State following his reported remarks against supporters of President Bola Tinubu.
Wike spoke with journalists in Abuja after a meeting with FCT area council chairmen, reacting to reports that Amaechi, a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), described those willing to vote for Tinubu as thieves and mad people.
Reacting, Wike said: “A lunatic cannot preside over the affairs of this country! A known armed robber cannot!”
He warned Amaechi against continuing to insult the President’s supporters, saying, “If he continues along this line, it will be difficult for him to campaign in Rivers State. We will make it difficult for him.”
The minister also challenged journalists to question Amaechi over projects and funds allegedly unaccounted for during his tenure as governor of Rivers State.
He cited the alleged $39 million payment for the Justice Karibi-Whyte Hospital, which he claimed was never built; a $10 million fumigation contract awarded to a Cuban firm; the abandoned N68 billion Port Harcourt monorail project; and the $308 million sale of the state’s power assets.
Wike further alleged that Amaechi had been indicted by a judicial panel of inquiry and claimed that the former governor lost his appeal up to the Supreme Court.
On the indefinite strike declared by the FCT chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Wike described the action as politically motivated and insisted that the administration had no basis for the industrial dispute.
