FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his reported plan to restore fuel subsidy, accusing him of inconsistency.
Speaking Thursday in Abuja, Wike recalled that Atiku had pledged in 2022 to remove subsidy within 100 days if elected, but was now advocating its return.
Describing Atiku as a “voodoo economist”, Wike questioned how subsidy could be restored under the Petroleum Industry Act and with NNPC Limited now operating commercially alongside the Dangote Refinery.
He defended President Bola Tinubu’s subsidy removal policy, saying it had increased government revenues and improved the ability of states to pay salaries and pensions.
Wike also dismissed Atiku as a leading 2027 presidential contender, insisting that Tinubu remained the only leading candidate.
