The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has directed the FCT Department of Development Control to demolish an illegal settlement near Karmajiji in the Kukwaba District of Abuja over alleged links to criminal activities.
Wike issued the directive on Friday while leading security operatives to the settlement following a meeting of the FCT Security Committee.
He said the action was aimed at strengthening security across the Federal Capital Territory, noting that intelligence reports indicated that suspected criminals often retreated to the area after carrying out attacks in parts of Abuja.
Describing the settlement as a security threat, the minister said the identities of its occupants could not be easily verified, making it difficult for security agencies to monitor activities there.
He directed the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, to work with the Director of Development Control to immediately demolish the settlement.
Wike warned that anyone found using such locations to support criminal activities would face the full weight of the law.
He said the demolition forms part of the FCT Administration’s broader strategy to dismantle criminal hideouts, enhance public safety, and safeguard residents, while reaffirming the administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the territory.
