At least 14 members of Niger’s Defence and Security Forces have been killed following a coordinated terrorist attack and a subsequent ambush in N’Guigmi, Diffa Region, in the country’s southeast.
According to Daily Post, Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the incident in a report shared on his official X account, stating that the attack occurred around 9:30 a.m. on Friday.
He said heavily armed terrorists advanced from the Sabon Carré neighbourhood, southwest of N’Guigmi, and attacked a National Guard post located near the town’s cemetery.
The assault triggered a military response, with reinforcements deployed to pursue the fleeing attackers. However, the troops reportedly walked into a carefully planned ambush about one kilometre south of the National Guard position, leading to significant casualties.
Preliminary reports indicate that 14 security personnel lost their lives, including 10 soldiers of the Niger Armed Forces, one of them an officer, and four members of the National Guard.
