The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has said he is prepared to face any allegations against him in court, following comments made by actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo.
Obi stated that the decision to institute legal action against Okonkwo became necessary after the latter indicated that he had additional information he intended to reveal about him in the future.
According to Obi, the matter would not have escalated to a court case if Okonkwo had limited himself to the allegations he had already made.
“The issue of taking Kenneth Okonkwo to court wouldn’t have arisen if he had stopped at those allegations. But he claimed he still has more he would expose about me in the future,” Obi said.
He added that he welcomed the opportunity to have the claims tested in court, stressing that the judicial process would provide a transparent platform for any accusations to be examined publicly.
“I am very happy to take him to court so that he can expose me publicly, alongside other Nigerians. If any of them has any criminal allegations against me, they should bring it to court,” Obi stated.
The remarks come amid ongoing political exchanges between the former Labour Party allies, with both figures remaining active voices in Nigeria’s political landscape.
