Troops of Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force Northwest, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 22 kidnapped victims during separate operations in Sokoto State.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the successful rescues were carried out following credible intelligence and distress reports on terrorist activities in the affected areas.
The statement noted that the operations reflect the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protecting lives and property while ensuring a secure environment for citizens to go about their lawful activities without fear.
The first operation took place along the Sabon Birni–Shinkafi Road at Kura Mota Village, where terrorists reportedly attacked two commercial vehicles, killed one civilian, and abducted several passengers.
Upon receiving the report, troops swiftly deployed to the area and launched a coordinated pursuit operation supported by air assets. The sustained pressure forced the terrorists to abandon their captives and flee, leading to the rescue of 17 abducted passengers.
In a separate incident at Chohi Village in Isa Local Government Area, troops responded to an attack in which armed terrorists attempted to abduct farmers working on their farmlands.
Security personnel immediately moved to the area and pursued the attackers along their escape route. The operation resulted in the rescue of five kidnapped farmers, who were later reunited with their families.
Following the successful missions, troops conducted confidence-building patrols in nearby communities, including Gidan Rana and Gidan Sale villages, to reassure residents and reinforce security presence in the area.
The military reaffirmed its determination to deny terrorists freedom of movement and sustain efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace across communities in the North-West region.
