The popular Timber market at Marine Base, Port Harcourt, was yesterday gutted by fire.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire which started from the casket department of the market, burnt down all the goods and shops in the market.
Chairman of the market, Isaac Amaewhule confirmed the incident to Journalists today. He said the fire started at about 11:30 PM, yesterday.
He noted that immediately he got the information, he started calling the State Fire Service but to no avail, as they never showed up.
The Chairman said it took the intervention of residents and some traders who arrived the scene to put out the fire.
