Ten persons have been remanded at the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre over alleged destruction of a commercial Bank at the Borikiri axis of Port Harcourt, Rivers state after they were arrested by the Police few days ago while demonstrating against the scarcity of the new naira.
The protest which started peacefully later turned violent as hoodlums seized the opportunity to rob passersby of their belongings, destroyed the bank’s Automated Teller Machines and also carted away properties.
The accused persons who are standing trial on six counts for alleged conspiracy, housebreaking, unlawful gathering and stealing pleaded not guilty to the charges as their counsels argued on the bail application.
The Chief Magistrate, Rita Ogugua, adjourned the case till February 22, 2023, for bail consideration after listening to counsels representing both parties.
