The Rivers State Government on Sunday morning released the 22-man ExxonMobil staff arrested on Thursday for violating the lockdown imposed in the state due to the coronavirus.
Zaccheus Adangor, the State Attorney General made this known in a statement today in Port Harcourt. He said due to intervention of well-meaning Nigerians, the government decided to release the staff without charges.
The Governor of the State, Nyesom Wike had earlier vowed to prosecute the ExxonMobil staff, just like the state did to the Carveton Helicopters pilots for violating the lockdown order.
Zaccheus Adangor disclosed that he personally monitored the release of the staff, at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt.
He reiterated that the government is committed in ensuring that the state is free from the coronavirus.
