Governor, Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has inaugurated a 17-member State Community Policing Advisory Committee (SCPAC) and a 9-member State Community Policing Committee (SCPC). The Chairman of the state traditional rulers’ council, King Dandison Douglas Jaja serves as Chairman.
The event which took place at Government House Port Harcourt yesterday, had traditional rulers and some dignitaries in attendance. The Governor who was represented by his deputy Ipalibo Harry, charged the newly inaugurated members to sustain the peace in the state. She equally urged the members to discharge their duties according to their stipulated constitutional mandate.
I wish to charge you to follow closely the tenets of the purpose for which you are set up by promoting justice, judgement and fairness to all, Ipalibo noted
The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu in his remark presented by the Supervisory Deputy Inspector General of Police, South-South Zone, Anthony Ogbizi Michael said the inauguration of the committees would be replicated at different levels of the state. He said the inauguration marks the commencement of community policing in the state.
