Some traders at the Rumuokoro market have accused Governor, Nyesom Wike of sending the state Taskforce after traders rejecting the old N500 and N1000 notes.
The traders in a chat with journalists said the taskforce officials yesterday went round the market announcing that the governor has directed them to ensure that traders at the market accept the old notes.
They said traders who flouted the directive were physically assaulted and forced out of the market.
They blasted the governor for allegedly coming after petty traders instead of going after multinationals that have refused to accept the old notes.
There were unconfirmed reports on Wednesday that the governor ordered closure of the Rumuokoro market for rejecting the old naira notes.
Recall that President, Buhari, yesterday during a national broadcast approved use of the old N200 naira note and directed Nigerians to deposit their old N500 and N1000 notes at the Central Bank.
